Social media giant Facebook is quietly making progress on hardware products with augmented reality features. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg hinted that one of them is now almost ready for presentation. According to him, the glasses will retain the iconic design, but will be able to “do some cool things” (let you do some pretty neat things— orig.)
More specifically, we should expect Ray-Ban smart glasses, which Facebook is developing in partnership with EssilorLuxottica, to be released soon. The glasses may be the forerunners of truly augmented reality (AR) glasses — hence the expected model is not classified as a full-fledged AR device. Smart glasses do not need a built-in display and can be controlled via a paired device (smartphone, tablet, etc.). It is worth noting that the main functional characteristics of the device being developed by Facebook are still not fully known.
