Nowadays, tablets have replaced laptops and computers for many. Now tablets have really good technical characteristics that can be suitable for all kinds of tasks. In addition, tablets are much more compact and lighter, for example, the same ultrabooks. And if desired, the tablet can be used as a second monitor for your computer. In general, in this article we will try to help you find a great tablet in 2022 that fits your budget.
Decide on the scope
It is very important that you decide before buying where and how the tablet will be mainly used, as this will greatly help narrow down the range of tablet models and thereby find the option that suits you. Applications:
- For business purposes;
- For fun;
- For games;
Understand that your preferences will determine what specifications you need to pay attention to. For example, if you need a tablet for gaming, then, of course, your main focus will be on the power of the processor and graphics accelerator. And then on the RAM, the operating system, and then only on the screen size. But the order of the main factors when buying a tablet for work purposes is completely different. First you need to pay attention to the size and resolution of the screen, whether there is a slot for a SIM card, overall performance, internal memory, battery capacity and operating system. You also need to understand that everyone has different criteria.
What to choose WiFi or LTE
This is one of the most popular questions on the Internet regarding tablets. The most ideal and affordable options for tablets will always be WiFi options. Causes:
- WiFi models consume longer battery compared to LTE models;
- Models with WiFi are more accessible and cheaper;
But is it worth buying a tablet with LTE, then there is no definite answer. More than relevant for people living in big cities. But, if you live in a small area, or, for example, you almost never use a mobile network, then there is definitely no point in overpaying for LTE in a tablet. By the way, LTE standards in Russia and in the USA are different, so if you buy a tablet with LTE in America and return home (to Russia), you can see how LTE stops working. In order to avoid such situations, I recommend buying gadgets intended for the Russian market.
Display, resolution and brightness
One of the most important parameters when buying a tablet is the display. This is not surprising, since when using a tablet, we will constantly interact with the screen, and therefore, before buying, you should pay great attention to its quality, resolution and brightness.
- For professional work, I recommend tablets with a display size of at least 8 inches;
- The screen resolution must be at least Full HD (FHD, 1920 x 1080) and the number of pixels per inch must be at least 200 (PPI);
- Brightness above 400 nits will ensure good readability even on sunny days, while if the maximum brightness of the tablet is 200 nits, then you are unlikely to be able to read outdoors in sunny weather;
Now I will show you a clear example of what we are talking about (the resolution is lower on the left, and more on the right), look at the photo below. PPI plays a big role here, therefore, as I said, look for options not lower than 200. A model with a PPI of 300+ will give an amazing picture.
Screen size is far from the only important display item to look at. This is because it can happen that you come across a tablet with a bad matrix, where all the color palettes are not natural, and the viewing angle is very small, but the resolution is Full HD.
About dozens of types of matrices are known, but the most common are: TN, IPS and AMOLED.
- TN — the most popular matrix, which gives an average viewing angle, good color reproduction and brightness. Usually devices with TN matrices are relatively cheap;
- IPS matrices hold the lead in the category of matrices with a wide viewing angle of up to 180 degrees, the highest color rendering and brightness;
- AMOLED the matrix shows an excellent picture in terms of brightness, color saturation, contrast, viewing angles and natural black;
- Super AMOLED matrices are thin and have good color reproduction and high brightness;
If you compare between tablets with AMOLED and IPS matrices of the same size, you can see that AMOLED wins in terms of brightness, dynamic range and contrast. That is, on a tablet with an AMOLED matrix, fonts look clearer, sharper and generally better drawn. But, in the model with an IPS matrix, the background area is better worked out, soft transitions look more distinguishable and brighter. Do not forget that the comfort of surfing the Internet will depend on the screen you choose.
In the market for inexpensive tablets, many are made of plastic, so it’s good that they can suffer after a slight fall. Of course, it is best to consider metal tablets, since they are considered more reliable and often look more solid than plastic ones, but they usually weigh a little more.
Battery capacity and charger power
The battery capacity will determine the time that the tablet can work on one full charge. This criterion must be considered along with other performance and display characteristics of the gadget. For example, usually a tablet with a premium filling with a Full HD display consumes a charge faster than the same budget models.
If you purchase a ~ 8 inch tablet, then you should pay attention to the battery capacity of about 5000 mAh. If we consider models with 9-10 inch screens, then I advise you to pay attention to batteries of at least 5000 mAh. It can be around 7000 — 8000 mAh. Of course, the larger this parameter, the better. And I recommend paying attention to chargers with a power of at least 15 watts. With good charger power, you won’t have to wait for hours when the tablet is charged up to 100%.
Random Access Memory (RAM)
Random access memory (RAM) is responsible for the speed of the programs used, as well as for how many applications you can run at the same time, that is, for multitasking. If there is not enough memory, then the tablet is likely to work slowly. Therefore, be sure to pay attention to the fact that the RAM in the tablet is at least 3 GB. Nowadays, I see no reason to consider tablets below 3 GB. Tablets with one gigabyte of RAM are found in the cheapest models. And if you are considering a children’s tablet for a child, then in such models it is quite adequate to meet RAM in the amount of one or two gigabytes.
For example, on a tablet HUAWEI Matepad T10S with the EMUI 10.1 shell, the amount of RAM is 4 GB. This tablet may appeal to many, as it has a 10.1 inch Full HD screen (1920 x 1200, 224 PPI and an IPS matrix). Of the features, it would also be noted that it can include a double display of the same de application. For many, this feature can be very useful (if you need it, take note too). Other features in a nutshell:
- distance notification;
- body position notification;
- warning about shaking in transport;
- e-book mode;
If we consider a tablet for games (for example, many more may need it for all sorts of video processing, photos and other demanding things), then be sure to pay attention to a model with at least 4 GB of RAM.
Internal memory will at least be needed to install the operating system, so you will initially have some part of the memory filled. But besides this, we need free memory to install various kinds of applications and store files. At the moment, the optimal amount of memory is considered to be about 64 — 128 gigabytes. If, for example, you like to watch movies not online, then 64 GB will definitely not be enough. But there is also such an option: you can buy an inexpensive tablet with 32 gigabytes of built-in memory and after some time (after the internal memory is full) expand the memory using a MicroSD card, or micro SDHC, micro SDXC. And if you decide to choose a tablet with a small amount of internal memory, then also pay attention to the maximum size of the memory card that can fit, since it can be only 128 gigabytes. Otherwise, this may not be enough for you.
The processor is also considered one of the main criteria, which is definitely worth paying attention to. Actually, the more powerful your processor, the faster the tablet will “think”.
Ranking of the best processors for tablets in 2021:
In addition to how you need to look at the name of the processor, also look at the clock frequency of the processor (it is measured in hertz and can be 1.3 GHz, 1.4 GHz, 2 GHz, and so on) and the number of cores. In general, a good processor in our time should have at least 4 cores and a clock speed of 1.5 GHz. If you are going to play on a tablet, then I recommend paying attention to processors with 8 cores and a frequency of 2 GHz.
You should definitely not expect any professional shooting qualities from tablets. It is not surprising that they photograph worse than smartphones, since this is far from their main purpose. Usually the front cameras are not much worse than the rear cameras. If you often communicate via video call, then we advise you to pay attention to models that have a front camera of at least 5 MP. And in order to get good photos with a tablet, I recommend a rear camera of at least 8 MP. Chasing an amazing camera in a tablet seems strange to me, but again, for some business, maybe someone needs it. For example, on a tablet XIAOMI MI Pad 4 the front camera hung at 5 MP, and the rear even at 13.
Summing up all of the above, I want to say that be sure to look at customer reviews before buying. And it’s even better to do it in several online stores. Don’t be lazy! I tried my best to make the article useful and therefore I look forward to receiving feedback from you below in the comments.
