ThinkPad is almost synonymous with business laptops, and in honor of the brand’s 30th anniversary, Lenovo has introduced a special edition of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 laptop.
While this isn’t the anniversary of the X1 Carbon, there’s no better ThinkPad in 2022. Only 5,000 copies of this special edition were produced. The changes affected mainly the appearance. IBM released the first ThinkPad laptop in 1992 and continued with the product line until the IBM PC division was sold to Lenovo in 2005. Laptops have obviously come a long way since then, leading us to the ThinkPad X1 Carbon.
Using the same platform as the Gen 10, this 14″ model is 15.3mm thick and weighs just over a kilogram, perfect for businessmen who want a reliable tool close at hand.
Unusual changes of the anniversary model begin already with the packaging, because it is made of bamboo and sugar cane, and the changes continue further — in the elements of the laptop case.
In the box, in addition to the standard documentation, there is a brochure with the history of the ThinkPad brand, as well as several replacement caps for the TrackPoint: red, green and blue, as a tribute to the origins. These colors are also used on the lid of the laptop, with the ThinkPad lettering painted on, highlighting the logo on the carbon lid.
Involvement in the anniversary series is also revealed when opening the laptop. The logo, which is always present in the lower right corner, is still painted in a retro style, and there is an inscription in honor of the 30th anniversary to the left of the touchpad. In addition, like any limited edition device, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 30th Anniversary laptop has a serial number for true fans of these laptops.
Of course, the keyboard has a branded TrackPoint, which is highlighted in red. As already mentioned, there are interchangeable caps for it, just pull the silicone part towards you and install it back in a different color.
In terms of specs, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 30th Anniversary follows its run-of-the-mill siblings with a 12th Gen Intel Core i7-1270P, 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. The 14-inch display has a resolution of 16:10 in 4K, which means a resolution of 3840 by 2400 pixels.
The set of connectors and ports includes: two USB-C with Thunderbolt 4 support, two USB-A ports, HDMI, headset jack, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. Full HD camera with IR and privacy slider.
