You have probably heard a joke that is quite common today, they say, the world is now so unstable that even contour cards were asked not to be bought for school. But no matter how changeable everything seemed, I thought that since the earth is still in the shape of a ball, then these are quite stable circumstances that favor the review of a smart globe.

Yes, and the time is right: the beginning of September, school time, the time for useful educational gifts that motivate you to explore the world around you.

The problem that I encountered in preparing for the review is rather constructive. Usually everyone starts talking about how this or that gadget looks like, what it is. So I first wanted to talk about the fact that the Praktica globe has the correct shape of a ball. But then I realized that I hadn’t come across a globe that looked like a turtle on elephants for a long time, and so I’ll do the following. I’ll tell you how this globe differs from the usual globe, and not how it is similar.

Do you know?

It turns out that in Ethiopia, several calendars are used at once! And by the way, in Oman the most popular sweet is the Omani halva. And — I would never have thought — but Romania is one of the largest producers of plums!

All these amazing facts can be found thanks to this globe. In other words, our globe is smart and interactive, that is, everything that he knows programmatically, he willingly tells.

Everyone determines the value of facts for himself, but in any case, before you is a small geographical encyclopedia, which includes thousands of information blocks, which are divided into groups and topics. The voice is intelligible, and it can be heard in two languages: Russian and English.

How it works

The “Practice” model offers several formats of interaction. The simplest and most obvious is “from the table”. To do this, you need to use a special handle connected to the globe.

On it, by the way, is the button to turn on the globe. Without this handle, it will not work with the device, there will be no reaction to the fingers.

The main menu is located on a stand and is divided into blocks.

For example, to find out about currencies, you need to select the “Currency” item on the left, and then point the pen at the country you are interested in. And then — according to this scheme — you can use the rest of the blocks.

Methodical canon — on the right!

The great scientist Huizinga believed that everything in this life has a playful nature, therefore comprehending the world, learning while playing, is one of the favorite recommendations of the Methodists. Here it is implemented, and implemented quite normally.

The fact is that the game in education is a complicated thing, and only the game can remain in the process, and education can be lost along the way. Here it is added quite neatly, it does not overwhelm the entire semantic load. First, I studied the ball, then, for example, I looked for countries. It’s not difficult and it’s fun.

Look how beautiful Mongolia is!

Globe and smartphone

This, it seems to me, is also a very wise decision and a good motivator. A modern child is more likely to get carried away with something that can be somehow connected with a smartphone. The globe has an application, it can be downloaded using the QR code on the box. It weighs 414 MB. Actually, one of the sides of the box clearly hints at AR reality.

The appendix catalogs several sections that also include facts. Information is provided in text.

Synchronization between devices occurs via a QR code, which is located at the base of the globe.

It needs to be scanned the first time the application is launched.

There is a second activation method, but since the first one works, it makes no sense to connect by serial number. And then you just need to point the camera at the globe, having previously selected one of the sections you like.

As a result, you will get something like this picture. For example, the detailing of world monuments is rather conditional, but they are still recognizable.

How it works in a little more detail — in a short and almost silent video:

Finally, the starry sky

The globe has a backlight button that “overlays” the constellations. It works best in the dark, of course.

You can also get information about constellations, but in a more linear way. The handle here does not help. This is an unmanaged digest, but one of the most entertaining. For example, in the «legends of the constellations» the myths of antiquity are actually told. But if you want to poke at the constellation, then nothing will work. The pen will fall, as it were, “above” into a country or ocean, and the globe will switch to another mode.

Another thing is that it looks very nice and can even act as a children’s night lamp.

The backlight activation lamp is located in a not very obvious, but easily found place:

Packed decently, but there are nuances

The globe comes in a box, the two sides of which I have already shown. Let me remind you of this from another angle:

Do not throw away the box right away — here is the QR code of the application. Of course, you can find it this way, but it’s easier this way. Some errors on the box remained: at the moment:

Batteries and USB cable are not included! This is not a mistake, this is by design. Requires 3 AA batteries. The handle has a micro connector.

The globe is packed in a film so that it is not scratched on the way.

Additionally secured with clamps.

General impressions and summary

The globe has a recognizable shape with a well-drawn political map. All names are applied correctly and correctly, symbols are present.

It is thought out in such a way that all the functionality is used at once: without prompts, stories, everything looks boring, but when you turn on audio or visual accompaniment, interest in the device increases.

The voice is pleasant, the size is not very large (230 mm), so this is luck squared! Well, more precisely in a ball, of course. The cost of a globe is about $00.

Thank you for your attention,

all the best!
