With the advent of the new line of Dimensity chipsets with a built-in 5G modem, MediaTek has notably begun to step on the heels of competing Qualcomm. And for now, MTK is set to take over the market with the first Dimensity 9000 SoC built on a 4nm process. This decision puts the SoC in first place in the tests in the popular AI Benchmark application, outsmarting such giants as: Google Tensor, Exynos 2100, Kirin 9000 and Snapdragon 888.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G
Well, let’s start this article with the entry-level Dimensity 700 processor, which is the heart of this year’s popular Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G smartphone. My review of this smartphone can be found at this link. As for the Dimensity 700, it is made on a 7nm process technology and is an entry-level 8-core processor (2*Cortex-A76 2.2GHz, 6*Cortex-A55 2GHz).
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G itself is equipped with a 6.5” IPS 90Hz screen, supports fast charging at 18W and has a 48MP main camera.
The next generation of processors received the Dimensity 800U naming, focusing on the Mali-G57 MC3 video core (the 700 series uses the Mali-G57 MC2), while the main cluster remained almost untouched, with the exception of overclocked A76 cores up to 2.4 GHz.
As for OPPO A95, this is a new smartphone model from the manufacturer, which received a 6.43 «Amoled display with FullHD + resolution, support for 30W charging and a 48MP main camera.
Poco M4 Pro 5G
Dimensity 810 is manufactured using an even more technologically advanced 6nm process, which is reflected in increased performance and better autonomy. An example of a smartphone based on this chipset is the Poco M4 Pro 5G, which I also reviewed recently (you can read it here). The smartphone itself showed itself from the excellent side, giving out excellent indicators of the speed of the internal drive, RAM and battery life on a single charge.
HONOR 50 SE
Dimensity 900 allows you to get a fairly productive device (about 500 thousand points in Antutu) for an inexpensive price. Its structure employs 2 A78 cores (2.4 GHz), 6 A55 cores (2 GHz), as well as the Mali-G68 MC4 GPU. But this is not all of its capabilities, because Dimensity 900 supports LPDDR5 memory, UFS 3.1 storage and a third-generation AI processor.
The Dimensity 900 is represented by HONOR 50 SE, which received a 6.78″ LTPS IPS display with a resolution of 2388 * 1080px and a refresh rate of 120 Hz, a 108MP main photo module, support for fast charging at 65W and a memory capacity of 8/128, 8/256GB.
OPPO Reno5 Pro
Dimensity 1000+ is a transitional chipset that received «outdated» productive cores, but in a larger proportion than all previous models:
- 4*Cortex-A77 @ 2.6GHz;
- 4*Cortex-A55 clocked at 2GHz.
The video processor is Mali-G77 MC9, capable of processing screens with a refresh rate of 144 Hz.
As a representative of this SoC, OPPO Reno5 Pro received excellent performance for its price:
- 6.55″ Super AMOLED screen @ 90Hz (Corning Gorilla 5)
- 65W Super VOOC2 fast charging
- 128/256GB storage, 8/12GB RAM
POCO X3 GT
Dimensity 1100 received 4 cores Cortex-A78 (2.6GHz), 4 cores Cortex-A55 (2GHz), ARM G77 MC9 accelerator and is MediaTek’s pre-top chipset. This SoC easily scores up to 590,000 points in Antutu and supports UFS 3.1 storage format, 144Hz screens and 108MP cameras.
The representative of this platform is the popular smartphone POCO X3 GT, which has won the hearts of many users. At the heart of the smartphone: 6.6 «IPS display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection, 67W fast charging support, 64MP main camera, Wi-FI 6 and Bluetooth 5.2.
OnePlus Nord 2
Dimensity 1200 is a flagship chipset that can compete with Snapdragon and consists of: 1 * A78 (3.0 GHz), 3 * A78 (2.6 GHz) and 4 * A55 (2 GHz). MediaTek did not equip their chipset with a «hot» Cortex-X1, thereby achieving optimal performance and cooling. The technical process used is 6 nm.
Representing this chipset will be OnePlus Nord 2, which is a decent smartphone in the market with 670,000 Antutu points. There is also a variation on 12GB Ram, but the version with 8GB of memory is more popular. Of the features:
- 6.43″ FullHD+ Fluid AMOLED with 90Hz and HDR 10+ support
- high speed UFS 3.1 storage
- 50Mp main camera with 10x digital zoom
- fast charging WARP Charge 65W
Redmi K50 Gaming Edition
Dimensity 9000 is the first chipset built on 4nm process technology and consists of:
- 1*Cortex-X2 3.05GHz;
- 3*Cortex-A710 @ 2.85GHz;
- 4*Cortex-A510 @ 1.8GHz.
The Mali-G710 MC10 is responsible for the graphics, capable of «digesting» cameras with a resolution of 320Mp and screens with a refresh rate of 180 Hz. This SoC uses high-speed LPDDR5X memory, so we are waiting for the first devices to appear on sale. And if rumors are to be believed, the first Dimensity 9000 smartphone will be the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition, which has on board:
- OLED display with a resolution of 2K at 120 Hz (or 144 Hz, in question).
- support for fast charging 120W + complete PSU 120W
- 64Mp main camera (Sony Exmor IMX686)
- JBL stereo speakers
My first acquaintance with the Dimensity processor line happened in 2021, when I tested the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10T (Dimensity 700). At that time, I was pleasantly surprised by the autonomy, speed and excellent cooling of the processor, periodically forgetting the fact that the SoC from MediaTek is the heart. In my last review of the Poco M4 Pro (Dimensity 810), the result of the processor as a whole was even more surprising, giving out tremendous results in the speeds of the internal storage and RAM. Thus, I want to say that the Dimensity series is far from the Helio that there were always complaints about and it is worth considering for buying a new smartphone.
